I've always bought credits and supported the game financially but IMO anyone who is an admin of a full active league should get a free subscription.

One of the biggest problems in MFN is that we don't have enough ACTIVE league admins. I say active in bold because anyone can become an admin and just manage their own team.

An active league admin actually puts in time & effort to keep their league full through recruitment, monitors the forums & trades to keep the league running smoothly and keep the level of competition balanced.

Really active admins will take time to add extra content like draft/game reviews, create a Hall of Fame, monitor milestones reached and give every owner something other then the actual games to look forward to.

I dont want or need a free subscription but giving a free subscription to anyone running a league and being an active league admin adds to MFN in a positive way.

Bigger than the subscription tiers for me is the long term future of the game.

Boss man has done, imo, an amazing job in not only creating this game but also in keeping it going. It's clear that there's currently not enough income going in to cover costs and allow him to maintain a good enough wage for doing so to make this his full time job.

Issue then is that working full time means less time to work on the game. That then means users leave seeing no progress.

It's clear that either more devs are able to donate time to help with some of the coding work to alleviate the time pressure, but would that be a sticking plaster? What's the alternative - selling the game off as a going concern to a company able to expand and make it a better commercial concern?

I don't know the answer, don't pretend to have the answers. I'm unfortunately in the position where I can only go the free tier route. My personal circumstances right now are that I've heavy private education bill that gives me zero free cash ( youngest son has special needs, local council here in UK wanted him to go to a school where he'd effectively be 'warehoused' and not develop); whilst we've had some financial support from a charity to it and remain fighting the council over it, I simply can't afford to pay boss man the money he imo really deserves.

The reality is now kicking in. A well established league is just about to go to the wall .

Get your team , sort out the roster the way you want it , after you’re done I will reset the cap.
All teams set to zero cap right now .

We are now haemorrhaging owners faster than I can recruit . Most opting for one free for life team .
Imho this has not been thought out well.
Either pay up or mfn will cease to exist.

9 teams now available

If this happens I will not be picking up any more leagues to manage .

0.02 cents.
There must have been a better way to have handled this .
If you wanted to kill the golden goose, you couldn’t have done it any better

Curious how you all feel about the idea JDB stopped reading any of this.

You are all busy thinking of ways to appease, he has already mentally logged off.

Think hard before sending your money to this black hole. At any point if JDB needed to be front and center to this group of 200 people it is now, dude is in hibernation.

You are all thinking too hard. You get paid for what you’ve done, not what you’re going to do. I do suggest just taking the free model and spending more time off the site in general. If JDB wants to kill the game then just let him, stop trying to save something he himself is not interested in saving.

This is your opinion. Idk that JDB is himself actively trying to seek help. Money doesn’t solve time issues, and with a game populated by 200 people he is not bound to make enough to hire a full time developer.

No one is going to donate time when JDB doesn’t donate time to his own project. No where has he mentioned enlisting help for coding. He has only insinuated three primary objectives which are broad in general, none of which involved outside help.

Well, if killing the site off is his ultimate goal, he’s doing a **** good job of it.

I went with the starter pass and I’m giving it a year. If I don’t see big changes on the horizon after that, I won’t be forking over anymore cash. Provided mfn actually survives another year.

You guys should be thanking JDB for all the fun you've had over the years and not bitching about a few dollars to play a game. Why do you guys think people should work for free? I sure as **** don't work for free. What does JDB even care if we all leave since he doesn't make money on the game and may even lose money running it. I'm not disappointed in the subscription model I'm disappointed in my whiney *** fellow players that can't pony up a few dollars to enjoy a game.

I have my doubts both ways considering the lack of improvement for most of the time I have played here since discovering MFN. I am willing to tough out and pay to help over the short term, but I am considering my existing credits a “trial period” to see if anything comes out of it. I get it that a significant portion of the player base are most likely staying in the free zone, which will all but destroy membership in the majority of casual leagues. I would wager to bet there is barely more than 1 full league worth of competitive paying members, so I hope that’s enough to get the development rolling. If not, there will be a second wave of departures putting the final nail in the coffin here by summer.

I didn't say he was seeking help, I said it's something that should be considered.

It's clear that JDB cannot continue as things were. The money simply wasn't there to allow him to develop this full time, which I'm sure he'd prefer to. There are always options, but he has to weigh up the time and effort of each - he's got his family to support after all, I think people sometimes forget that.

Does the game have the metrics to justify a bold pitch to angel investors? I don't think so; I'm sure given the premise of the game - which for all the gripes, isn't too shabby - there may be interest but then JDB is tied up in preparing for pitches, etc, which can be time-consuming in and of itself.

Sell the codebase and membership as a going concern? I'm sure there may be some interest in buying the game but equally, JDB would need to find a company willing to invest, willing to pursue his vision of the game. Maybe a company came in with an offer, which meant he has no more involvement... not always ideal. If you then found the game offered plays to "buy", it would destroy it and **** all over everything JDB has achieved.

I get people are upset but JDB to me seems to be between a rock and a hard place. Continue as is, improvements then absolutely crawl due to a lack of his time, people leave, game dies. Build up a dev team, well, he's then got to pay and I doubt the game is anywhere near profitable to support that. IMO, the subscription tier is the "best worst" option.

I think maybe community engagement could help - anyone able to help out, give the odd bit of time ( website styling, develop REST apis etc) would alleviate some of the pressure on JDB from a time perspective. Maybe that's another possible avenue to explore.
