I am considering whether the blitz 2 zone defense plays would be good against a run only personnel set. Has anyone tried this?

On one hand, I like that I could restrict the zone defensive plays to only these sets. But I'm somewhat nervous because players in zone are vulnerable to the run if the run breaks into the secondary.

Here is a game that had zone scheme. Some run key blitzes matched up with run plays. When I blitzed the running lane ....the offensive lineman triple teamed the DT and the LB was free to make the play .

When I blitzed the wrong hole the LBers got gobbled up and it was a ten yard gain. This game was under the current code.

I will try this same scheme under the new beta code. Granted these plays were vs. 212 sets....not many 113.

Where I think it could be effective is using the 3 Deep Man Blitz 2+ plays against the 221 or 230. Those plays send 7 crashing against the OL. And since they are out of the 46 usually, the SS is going to sit in the middle of the field.

A quick note on this thread just to cross post: Don't ignore B&R Coverage on your CBs if you are going to play a strict Cover 5. I only recently started to look close at the pre-snap decisions that DBs make.

Win or lose, I will game plan as I would in real football. Im here to have fun with football...not try defeat the logic of a computer program. Have fun winning with that guys.

I like it when people say this like there's a difference between trying to beat the game code and game planning like you would in real life. I too game plan just like I would _in real football_, but I'm not going to use plans or strategies that just do not work in the game.

The way I see it, it's more like a game of chess with The Turk. I'd rather be the player in the box rather than the one being fooled. Granted if I ever become an alpha tester, I'll just give up all my teams -- and forum posts -- because that just wouldn't be fair.

I wanted to return to this rule for a minute, and add an addendum to it.

If your opponent runs the 113 HB Counter or runs a lot period out of the 113 or 203 sets, create a rule that goes Normal Defensive Back field – You are probably signing LBs that are fast, strong, and good tacklers, right? Why do you want them off the field when the other team is probably going to run the ball. This rule can really save you through 3Qs. But you might want to not use it in the 4Q if you have a lead and your opponent is likely to pass. In that case, you might need two rules depending on how much you trust your LBs not to get burned by the slot WR.


You also need to add this rule against the 203 HB Inside Weak. This is another one of the exploit runs that will shred your team if you don't counter it.

Why do 113 and 203 runs destroy teams?

As a reminder, the game defaults the Nickle defensive formation against the 113 and 203 in all situations unless you are using a rule.

Here's why that matters. The 113 Counter Weak Slot Strong and 203 HB Inside Weak are designed to exploit both M2M and Zone Coverage against the Nickle. This isn't a bug. This is a designed exploit that you can use to your advantage, but that you need to game plan against.

If you are running M2M, your nickle CB will be pulled to the strong side of the field against those plays. That leaves a sizeable gap between the weak outside WR and the LT. Both of these runs are designed to run into that gap.

If you are running Zone, your nickle back will drop back into a Zone and expose the same gap.

So unless you're CB3 blitzing every down against these sets, going normal and sending a blitzer around the weak side is one of the few ways of closing up that gap.
