BALTIMORE — The Baltimore Ravens opened their 2047 regular season with a 13-7 road victory over the New Orleans Saints on September 8. Ravens head coach Johnny Conaway’s team managed to secure a win through solid defensive stands and timely scoring.

The game got off to a fast start with Baltimore striking first. Quarterback Richard Dunn connected with Garrett Stevens on a 77-yard touchdown pass just over a minute into the opening quarter, giving the Ravens an early 6-0 lead. William Silver converted the extra point, making it 7-0.

The Saints responded quickly as returner Shawn Rosen took a 64-yard kickoff to the end zone for a touchdown, with both teams enduring minor injuries on the play that did not appear to be serious. James Garza’s extra point tied the game at 7-7.

After the early scoring exchange, defenses tightened. The Ravens took the lead for good midway through the second quarter when Silver kicked a 25-yard field goal, followed by a 54-yard field goal just before halftime, putting Baltimore ahead 13-7.

Offensively, Dunn completed 21 of 32 passes for 252 yards and one touchdown. Tight end Edmond Olmstead led Ravens receivers with 87 yards, while Stevens contributed 77 receiving yards and the team’s sole touchdown reception. The Ravens ran the ball 29 times for 66 yards and scored their lone rushing touchdown on a run by Stevens.

The Saints’ Russell Farlow struggled to find the end zone despite a strong passing day, throwing for 278 yards without a touchdown and one interception. New Orleans managed just 34 rushing yards on 14 attempts and failed to convert on any third downs.

Baltimore’s defense was effective, recording three sacks and recovering two fumbles. Defensive end Carlos Blair led with two sacks. The Ravens limited the Saints to zero red zone visits and held them to seven points. Saints defensive tackles Brandon Weaver and Jerry James each forced a fumble, but the Saints’ offense was unable to capitalize.

Special teams played a crucial role, with Gary Todd punting effectively and Silver delivering both field goals. Baltimore’s penalties were kept in check with just three for 28 yards, while the Saints committed seven infractions for 67 yards.

With this win, the Ravens start their season at 1-0 and lead their division. The Saints fall to 0-1.
