The Baltimore Ravens headed into their 2047 preseason Week 2 matchup against the New Orleans Saints with cautious optimism, fresh off an encouraging look in Week 1. Yet, under the watchful eye of Head Coach Johnny Conaway, the Ravens fell short, losing 17-7 on the road in a game that reflected ongoing growing pains on offense and a resilient Saints defense.

The Ravens struck first, largely on the legs of rookie running back Johnathan Yang. With 2:16 left in the opening quarter, Yang punched in a 7-yard touchdown that gave Baltimore an early 7-0 lead, capped by William Silver's successful extra point. It was one of the few offensive highlights for Baltimore, as the team struggled to build momentum beyond that score.

Quarterback Nick Holland saw significant playing time, completing 23 of 38 passes for 136 yards but failed to find the end zone. On the other side, Holland was rattled at times, throwing two interceptions that stalled drives and prevented the offense from sustaining rhythm. The rushing attack also underwhelmed, with the team combining for just 48 yards on 19 carries and no touchdowns apart from Yang’s scoring run.

Defensively, Baltimore had flashes of strength. Defensive tackle Kim Gay notched two sacks, anchoring a front that pressured the Saints’ offense effectively. The secondary forced two turnovers as well, showcasing improvement in coverage. However, the defense couldn’t stem the tide when it mattered most. The Saints managed to get on the scoreboard with a field goal before halftime and ultimately sealed the game with a rushing touchdown from standout receiver Tony Tirado, who also contributed 74 receiving yards.

Special teams played a notable role throughout, with Ravens' punter Gary Todd consistently flipping field position with impressive punts ranging from 44 to 56 yards. Meanwhile, the punt and kickoff coverage units handled several dangerous returns with respectable tackles from David Merritt and Shawn Rosen, although Merritt himself caught 60 yards' worth of throws but couldn't translate that yardage into points for Baltimore.

The Ravens' offense, though showing spurts of promise, especially through Yang’s mobility, struggled to convert in critical moments, failing to capitalize in the red zone. This preseason clash made clear that Conaway’s squad still has work to do on execution and finishing drives — a narrative that has been a running theme into this early season phase.

While the loss is not cause for alarm at this stage of the year, Baltimore must address its offensive inconsistencies to avoid similar outcomes once regular season intensity kicks in. Conaway now faces the challenge of instilling a sharper edge on both sides of the ball to build momentum and confidence heading toward Week 3 and the more consequential contests that lie ahead.
