The Minnesota Vikings defeated the Green Bay Packers 17-10 at home on December 22 in a Week 16 regular season game. With the victory, the Vikings improved to 12-4, solidifying their position in the playoffs, while the Packers fell to 5-11 and remain eliminated from postseason contention.

The Vikings opened the scoring in the second quarter with a short touchdown pass from quarterback Jean Martin to running back Corey Fox, who found a way to escape coverage for a 1-yard score. Leroy Carolan converted the extra point, giving Minnesota a 7-0 lead. Shortly after, the Packers had a fumble lost by running back Brian Williams, recovered by Vikings cornerback Albert Diaz, putting Minnesota in good field position. However, Martin was intercepted by Green Bay's Jeff Kennedy on the subsequent possession.

Green Bay's sole points in the first half came on a 26-yard field goal from kicker Eugene Miller with 3:30 remaining in the second quarter, cutting the Vikings' lead to 7-3.

In the third quarter, Minnesota extended its lead with a 55-yard field goal from Leroy Carolan, pushing the score to 10-3. The Vikings then increased their advantage in the fourth quarter when running back John McClain scored on a 2-yard rush, followed by another successful extra point from Carolan for a 17-3 lead.

The Packers answered later in the fourth quarter with a touchdown pass from quarterback William McCarthy to tight end Olen Nelson. The extra point was good, bringing the score to 17-10. Green Bay's McCarthy was intercepted several times down the stretch by Minnesota defenders Kenneth Naples and others, limiting the Packers’ chances for a comeback.

The Vikings' balanced offensive effort featured 158 rushing yards on 37 carries, with John McClain accounting for 73 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Corey Fox added 81 yards on the ground alongside his touchdown reception. Tight end Joseph Baker led the receiving corps with 83 yards. Jean Martin completed 14 of 24 passes for 146 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

Defensively, Minnesota’s Emanuel Gibson recorded two sacks, and Albert Diaz forced a fumble, contributing to the Vikings’ overall defensive strength that limited the Packers to just 74 rushing yards and 179 passing yards. The Vikings recorded two interceptions and one forced fumble in total.

Coach Christopher Parker's Vikings converted four of eleven third-down attempts and scored touchdowns on two of three red zone visits, showing efficiency in critical situations. Minnesota's penalty count was five for 44 yards, compared to Green Bay's four penalties for 19 yards.

With this win, the Vikings reinforce their second-place standing in the division at 4-2 in division play, keeping momentum heading into the final week. Green Bay remains winless at 0-6 in division matchups this season.

The Vikings will look to continue their winning ways next week as they aim to improve their playoff seeding.
