The Baltimore Ravens suffered a narrow 7-3 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday at Empower Field under the guidance of head coach Johnny Conaway. The defeat, the Ravens' first of the season, drops their record to 3-1, putting pressure on the defending division leaders as the Broncos improve to 3-1 and extend their winning streak to three games.
The game opened with Baltimore winning the toss and electing to receive, but the teams quickly settled into a punting rhythm, exchanging punts throughout the first half. Neither team managed to reach the end zone, with field position shifting frequently thanks to strong punting from Broncos' Arthur Rathbun and Ravens' Gary Todd.
It was not until the third quarter that the scoring commenced. Ravens kicker William Silver connected on a 45-yard field goal at 2:20 remaining in the third, giving Baltimore their only points of the game. Despite the early deficit, the Broncos responded in the fourth quarter with a 24-yard touchdown reception by Henry Capozzi from quarterback Patrick Bostic. The successful extra point by Michael Fox put Denver ahead 7-3, a lead they held for the remainder of the game.
Offensively, both squads struggled to move the chains effectively. The Broncos completed 22 of 30 passes for 170 yards and one touchdown, complemented by 68 rushing yards on 29 carries. Wide receiver Ray Stevens led Denver’s receiving corps with 65 yards, while Henry Capozzi added 38 receiving yards and the game-winning touchdown.
The Ravens posted 103 passing yards on 17 completions out of 24 attempts, with a balanced rushing attack accumulating 76 yards on 23 carries. However, Baltimore was unable to convert in key moments, with neither team recording any third-down conversions in this low-scoring contest.
Defensively, the Broncos registered two sacks and stifled the Ravens, who failed to record any sacks, interceptions, or forced turnovers. Penalties proved minimal from both sides, with Baltimore committing two for 10 yards and Denver four for 25 yards.
The loss ends Baltimore’s early undefeated run, but with a 3-1 record and a 1-0 division mark, the Ravens remain atop the division standings. Denver’s victory moves them into second place with a 1-1 division record.
Head coach Johnny Conaway faces the challenge of galvanizing his offense ahead of next week’s matchup following a performance hampered by limited yardage and scoring opportunities. The Ravens’ defense held firm for much of the game, but the offense’s inability to capitalize ultimately cost them the game.
Baltimore will look to bounce back and maintain their position in the division as the regular season progresses.
