Opening week in Oakland and our first ever meaningful game is against my 2nd favorite team, the Bengals. It was pretty cool seeing all those old Bengal names, there were some I'd use myself in the future if they weren't already taken like David Fulcher, Max Montoya and Chris Bahr. Hope you didn't want to use Reggie Nelson though my next opponent really has the right to be mad about it.
On to the game itself and the first 3 quarters looked just like my preseason, crappy. Allowed too many sacks, committed too many penalties(I could do without this aspect of art imitating life), and when I finally put a good drive together, Marv Hubbard fumbles in the red zone.
Entering the 4th qtr Bengals are looking good and seemingly headed toward victory when all of the sudden the sleepwalking Raiders woke up. Passes that were being completed started getting knocked down or intercepted. Had 3 in the 4th qtr, 2 by Jack Tatum which led to my 17 unanswered points.
A missed 51 yard FG by Chris Bahr prevented OT and gave the Raiders a 20-17 come from behind victory. Sweet!
Now I gotta hope the 4th quarter Raiders show up next week and beyond.
Good Game Greg, I was terribly upset over the play of my QB Virgil Carter as he throws 3 INT's over the final 12:00 of the game, all 3 were from our own 25, 16 and 6 yard line. Unfortunetaly, it's hard to give you too much credit, gotta admit you were VERY lucky. Hopefully, Virgil will overcome this devastating catastrophy. His teammates feel his pain. But as we move forward ( our 1st 4 games, all on the road at Oakland, Detroit, Pittsbugh, and Cleveland).
He deserved a better fate, and has to get his confidence back.
We know what we have to do, but this was truley hard to accept.
We'll keep working everyday to keep this sort of thing from happening again.
On a side note: Every other team in our division won their games, which puts us behind the eight ball. But we'll be back!!
