WR career length

I have a 28 year old WR that needs to be extended soon. (https://nfl.myfootballnow.com/player/2694) I was wondering how long WRs tend to stay productive in MFN. Giving him a 6 year contract would keep him until he is 34. How long can I expect him to last?

I find that in the player's (WR) 8th season they start to decline. Some decline faster than others. If the player has great speed (90+) they are still productive.

The thing you have to look out for is WR's usually retire in their 10th-11th season and their attributes, once they start to decline, usually don't stop.

I've found what mwd65 said is pretty spot on.

I think every WR I've tracked had a significant decline at the start of their 9th season. It is also a good assumption to plan that a WR will be done after their 11th season (some a year sooner, some a year later, very few go past a 12th season.)

Some WR remain productive into year 11, 12, etc but not many. I have a WR in league 48 that is having his best season ever in his 8th year.

These stats are through just 8 games, we have half a season to go!

For some perspective on his career stats...

His name is Jack Bauer and I named him after the "24" character https://mfn48.myfootballnow.com/player/5327.

This guy was productive in years 11 and 12 for one of my Oakland teams.

Thanks for all your advice. I signed him to a 4 year extension, so we'll have to wait and see how his career ends.

Yeah, rock him to about age 31 and if you had to go to 32 to make it work that is fine. So what if you have to eat 1 year of a contract if he retires going into the last season.

Basically, how I look at things with my WRs are as follows:

As he goes into the age 29 season I say to myself as training camp approaches, please don't f*** with his speed ratings. You have a good chance they'll hold somewhat and you may see a retire rate of 10% pop up.

Age 30, now it's ok I know his speed ratings are going to get f****ed up, therefore, I need to ensure I have younger firepower to allay it. (support the once invincible WRs fallen ratings)

The other ratings hold more than the speed. That goes like a sunken rock to the bottom of the ocean's floor.
