There are always surprises when the draft rolls around, sometimes bad, sometimes good. The Eagles being in the ferocious NFC East have very limited room for error and fortunately the first draft for new owner greyghost did not fall off a cliff.
1-9 TE James Frank (Brigham Young), the big TE from Brigham Young has the advantage of walking into a good offense and may not have to contribute right off the bat. The indicators in training camp, show vast improvement, but the ceiling has dropped a bit. In this case the drafting low volatility theory can be thrown out the window. -3(81)
3-9 FB Paul Olson (LSU), the bruiser from the bayou may just be what the doctor ordered as he will start from day one as the only FB on the roster. He has shown great desire and has great improvement in camp. +9(81)
4-9 WR Willie Bonar (Howard), the speedster will fill a definite need for the Eagles at wideout by adding depth. He has faced issues during camp, but the main tangibles are still there. -2(67)
4-18 QB Arthur Billings (DePauw), The front office of the Eagles was torn when they hit the 4th round of the 2008 draft. There was a lot of rumblings of going on the defensive side of the ball, but ownership decided to take a chance on the big QB from the small Indiana university. Billings represents the first player taken from the Tigers since the 1980’s. In training camp, the 4th rounder lit it up firing bullet after bullet to his receivers. There were questions regarding the future of the QB position for the Eagles, not anymore. +5(78)
There were positive and negatives, but the draft definitely dealt some good cards to the future of the Eagles franchise.
