As people don't read the stickies.

1. I now laughably run the league. We're doomed.

2. The league will pause after free agency 2 completes to allow time to fill spots - this pause will be for 5 days. Use the time for planning.

3. The position matrix is currently suspended. It will be re-enabled after the final late free agency sim run. Details on allowed changes are below.

4. FB can also play TE.

As of one minute ago, the matrix now allows you all to move players wherever.

This is intended as a one off transitional change to the new UI.

This affects depth chart, overrides and changing a position, so you can move a DE with poor rushing stats but good cover skills back if your dark heart requires.

NOTE IN BIG LETTERS.

This allows you to convert CB to DE. Now bear in mind that I trust people to use this responsibly.

ONLY CONVERT PLAYERS WITH A +/- 50lb WEIGHT RANGE, WEIGHTS LISTED BELOW.

If people take advantage by switching a CB to DE, then when the matrix is re-enabled, that player will be a DE, and thus plays at DE despite being around 30lbs underweight and gaining advantage.

I'll not look favourably upon that at all.

WEIGHTS

QB - 220
RB - 217
FB - 243
TE - 257
WR - 198
LT - 312
LG - 308
C - 283
RG - 316
RT - 318
LDE - 276
DT - 300
RDE - 276
SLB - 242
MLB - 245
WLB - 237
CB - 191
FS - 206
SS - 207

AFTER THE FINAL WEEK OF LATE FREE AGENCY BUT BEFORE PRE-SEASON GAME 1, THE MATRIX WILL BE RE-INSTATED

Planned Matrix

This was the current matrix as inherited.

QB -> QB, RB, KH
RB -> RB, WR, KR, PR, ST Blocker
FB -> RB, FB, TE, WR, ST Blocker
TE -> RB, FB, TE, WR, C, LS, ST Blocker
WR -> WR, KR, PR
All O Line -> All O Line positions, LS, ST Blocker
P -> P, K, KO, FG
K -> P, K, Ko, FGK
All D line -> All D line, all LB, ST rusher, gunner
All LBs -> All LB spots, all secondary, gunner, st rusher
All secondary -> all secondary spots, KR, PR, gunner, st rusher

The above will be amended to :-

QB -> QB, RB, KH
RB -> RB, WR, KR, PR, ST Blocker, KH
FB -> RB, FB, TE, WR, ST Blocker, KH
TE -> RB, FB, TE, WR, C, LS, ST Blocker, KH
WR -> WR, KR, PR, KH
All O Line -> All O Line positions, LS, ST Blocker, KH
P -> P, KO, KH
K -> K, Ko, FGK
All D line -> All D line, all LB, ST rusher, gunner, KH
All LBs -> All LB spots, all secondary, gunner, st rusher, KH
All secondary -> all secondary spots, KR, PR, gunner, st rusher, KH

Changes:-

1. Anyone can be a kick holder.
2. Punter removed from kicking duties other than Kickoffs - ENSURE YOU HAVE A KICKER.
3. Kicker removed from punting - ENSURE YOU HAVE A PUNTER.
4. FB can also play TE .

FB can't be a TE?

That was the original matrix Seth left.

You've raised a valid point - I've updated my proposed matrix.

Future note...

It seems to me that the standard position change matrix will need to be suspended briefly each season following the rookie draft. We can all think of occurrences, for example, of drafting a rookie LB who is better suited to playing DE or DT. If the player is designated as a LB in the draft, and if we are locked in to the proposed position change matrix, we would not be able to change the player from LB to DE / DT without a brief suspension of the proposed position change matrix. Here is an excerpt from a post I made on this topic from November 2025.

Vikings_Fan wrote:
It was noted previously that once we are using a fully operational New UI, that we can move a DT or DE to the LB position but cannot move a LB to the DT or DE position (see below from a previous post).

DT <> DE > LB
LB > S > CB
SS <> FS > CB
CB

Our only Ai managed team, the Detroit Lions, just selected a player designated as a WLB, David Lee, at pick 2.26 of the current draft. On the full listing of available positions on David Lee's player card, WLB is the position at which he has the seventh most potential: (1) LDE 29/78, (2) RDE 29/77, (3) MLB 30/75, (4) DT 29/72, (5) SLB 33/69, (6) SS 24/67, and (7) WLB 32/66.

So, my question is as follows... if we were using the New UI right now, would this player be unable to be switched to LDE, RDE, or DT, even though he has greater potential at those positions?

...another option would be to allow LB's to move to DE in the proposed position change matrix given how much the lines have blurred between LB - Edge Rusher - DE in NFL football (Micah Parsons and others currently but originating back to the great Lawrence Taylor in the 1980's).

I would need to clarify a few things with JDB ahead of that, if I'm honest. Somewhat hypocritically given I have switched positions in the past, but switching positions should be a rarity, not a regularity. The arguable root cause is that play generation isn't deep enough on a per position basis for a draft.

Now, that also is understandable - no draft should have squillions of good players for very position.

I'd not want to get into the habit of having to change the matrix every season because quite frankly, it's a massive ballache, having to manually untoggle all options, then manually put them back in - yes, I've requested changes to the admin options on this.

I see this as a one-off to add people transitioning to the new matrix based system, meanwhile am lobbying JDB on issues around this.

EDIT: With regards to your example.

The problem with that is WLB weight is 237 - if that player generates around that, then he's 39lbs underweight if you convert to DE, if allowed. Of course, if he's allowed to convert, then he'd be allowed into depth charts and overrides for DE whilst being a WLB despite being clearly underweight - so replacing one exploit with another.

Once you convert him to DE, you're then in the position that until he hits 276, he's an underweight DE therefore the speed exploit is still being used, albeit minimised. What then if his weight gain spots below 276? Again, underweight, though if he stops at say 273, no major harm.

The admin tools have no option to prevent a player being picked for a position based upon weight; if there was then that could prevent the exploit.

What I would say is that if we allow this every season, bearing in mind there are owners that do game the engine, what would stop someone picking a CB with good pass rush skills in the draft, changing them to DE? At most they'd hit the 240lb mark - once matrix re-assigned, they become a DE, you've instantly got underweight DE exploiting the game engine. The only way to then manage that is to rely on people NOT doing it.

To re-iterate; I see this as a one-off for this season to help the transition.

And as I want to avoid repeating editing the original reply, again with regard to WLB Lee, if the new matrix was in place then he would not receive the option to move to DE, so would be "stuck" in the LB area.

Looking at his stats ( was I GM of Lions at the time? ), he was a 2nd round "bust" I guess in that his progress hasn't improved to what most would expect for that round, but looking at him, I see the following :-

DE : Solid all down rusher. A couple of those attributes would tend to give me a gut feeling that he could be run against.

LB: Situational pass rusher. Depth / rotation for all LB slots. ST player.

Now, I'm not perfect, my assessment may or may not be fully accurate on that but Lee isn't an example of a player I'd say has no value if not converting to D. Overdrafted? Sure, but that's something that will always happen.
