I'll be taking advantage of the two new league admin tools in 2042 season:

* blocking plays from being used
* restricting player position swaps

The play position swaps and position will look pretty similar to our current rules. So you will still be able to swap an LB to DE for instance. But you can't play a DB at LB. I'll more specifically figure this out later.

Blocking plays is going to look something like:

* remove all the long passing plays
* remove the medium plays that do not work like the 014 medium slants plays (there are others)
* removing the short and medium plays that turn into garbage check downs like the HB Flat, but keeping the ones like the PA Fullback because of big play potential

I'll compile a full list of plays later.

On defense I'll seriously consider removing my favorite defense the 3-4 Cover 1 since it breaks things. Again need to think this through. I may also remove all zone defenses that don't work.

Right now I'm inviting the hate for this plan.

I agree with everything you commented. I would even go as far as letting people use long passes if they want

The reason for eliminating long passes is because there are still a number of newer owners that don't realize just how bad long passes are. Almost every play will end in a sack or interception. And the ones that don't are incomplete.

Looking at the play block editor, I noticed that the Flat Zone and FB Dives are available as plays that can be blocked. I assume this means they are reenabled in the new UI.

Yikes! The return of the FB dives and the OL Flat Zone? Blocking those plays will be essential to maintaining the current integrity of the game. (My previous comments about not blocking plays assumed that those plays already eliminated from the game were no longer available.)

At the moment they are not available to choose. I assume JDB used his "old" data base for the blocking feature.

Looking at the 2040 data, these 75 plays produced fewer than .18 expected points per play which roughly equates to < 3 positive yards per play since the formula counts a yard at 0.06 points. Note that every single long passing play is in this list.
