If you're saying "only use GL in goal line situations / 3rd + short / 4th + short", then same argument applies to using 5WR in early and short downs, instead keep it for only 3rd and long...

Not related, just watch any NFL game, 4 or 5 WR formations can be used at any time, they usually arent as they are also not used much in MFN, at least not that Ive seen, same as long pass plays, they dont perform well. Why do you think its called Goaline?

it can never be real life... always have to be concessions.

The simple answer is you adapt to it. You ensure all eligible receivers are covered and blitz.

In the game, 4/5 WR sets are pass only. Is that therefore not situational?

GG Seahawks!! Your D kept me scoreless in the 2nd half! You also picked off my QB 2x in the 2nd half. Your team almost came back. I need to fix things like using goal line D within the 20! Are you kidding me!! What was that by Farmer? 94 yards to the house??? It didn't help my D couldn't tackle anyone on that play. I'm lucky I won that game. Another quarter of play and you would've won.

GG LA Chargers. It was fun for the Packers to pull out a much-needed win following our upset loss at home to the Vikings. The two parts that stand me out are Will McCarthy's 8-yard touchdown pass to Greg Zarate, and the 33-yard pick-six from Mike Anderson (Green Bay's first defensive touchdown of the season) that capped off the scoring. Another good thing about our win was that we held your team to three field goals, and good job for successfully making those kicks, but that's as close as you'd get to a win however, as we scored the last 10 points in the fourth quarter. Hopefully we both do fine throughout the rest of the season.

Being a supporter, and heavy user, of the 5w set up, I find it gives my QB's more options, especially if you set your overrides properly. I've had weak armed QB's, in the past, put up numbers that Peyton Manning would be proud of. Downfall: A great deal of sacks if the defense has a great, fast, pass rush. You will experience 7 sack days but, unbelievably, you can with that amount of sacks. It happens but not often enough. The only reason a team should use the long pass is to stretch the field or at least give the AI something to "think" about. Hopefully the long pass problem will be corrected so we can see bombs more often, hail Mary's at the end if you're behind late, or to just stretch the field during the game. Unless you're Air Coryell, his teams were so fun to watch (Fouts and the Chargers!) as he aired the long ball often. Now, if you notice, in contrast, McVay doesn't throw the long ball as often but he could. He's got the QB with the great, rocket launcher of an arm, and probably the best receiving group in the NFL. Maybe, MFN will morph into an "Air Coryell" offensive style and then it would be very difficult to gameplan.

GG WolveRaiders, the Bears secondary went on vacation in the 4th qtr, WR Merz continues to put up big numbers, another PotW for both Merz and QB "Box" Jones. Only explanation that I have for your pass offense in the 4th, is whether or not you had a rule or the AI just went to the pass when down by more than 14. Add the "whim of the sim" or the rolls, and voila!

Pick your poison.

Olinemen as you point out struggle against the pass rush - play 5WR heavily, people will just blitz the **** out of you all game long. As long as WR1-5 covered... no rushes to worry about, may QB scrambling periodically.

Passing is better in MFN-TEST with the changes made, but needs at least another season of testing.

Once the next game engine is released, then I'll probably unblock long passes but they are still too broken under the current engine.

Good game GDB/Bears...I have no illusions that you if you're team had kept passing the ball late, you probably would have dropped a 50 burger on us.

But given the score you went to the run and my AI coach went to the pass (no rules there) to make a look a mildly respectable score (and very deceiving score) because the game was not even as close as the bad score would indicate.
