Hindsight is always 20/20 but we don't have any kind of gentleman's agreement about renaming players. For the most part it's easy but with free agency, many players made their mark with multiple teams and more than 1 of us may want to use a name.
I really started thinking about this when drafting DL and considered Lyle Alzado. He's moot as he's not in the system, and I wouldn't use that name this year anyway for the following reason: he first became a star while with the Donkeys and the Raiders were his 3rd team. IMO the name Lyle Alzado would belong to Denver, at least this year with so many players available to rename. Year 2 and beyond I would consider a free for all unless Gustoon lays down a rule.
I first started thinking about this when it was brought to my attention Daryle Lamonica was drafted by Buffalo. He made his mark in Oakland though so I put it behind me. Oakland was Matuszak's 4th team as well but the first 3 didn't put up with his **** very long, so I figure nobody else has a claim. That would be like Atlanta using Brett Favre.
Would the league name machine even allow that to happen? I think it's a question of first come, so like f9r me if I wanted to name a SS Ronnie Lott I'd go over to the 49ers and see if he was already there, if not ...Ronnie is a Jet

I would think that most guys here would be renaming players after guys that were stars/best known for playing on their respective teams. Like for example, Randy Moss. He played for San Fran for a year but he is best known for playing with the Pats and Vikings. So obviously San Fran wouldn't look to use that name.
I'm fine with first come first served but if Kansas City had stolen Marcus Allen we'd have to fight lmao.
I agree most would use common sense but we also never thought someone would sabotage our draft like they did. I would never use an aging star who had a cup of coffee with the Raiders, nor peed in the coffee pot like Randy Moss.
