I don't think people rate intelligence enough, not only is it all about learning plays, its also about how to play on the field.
I had a LB with something like 12 in tackling but 100 in intelligence and was a leading tackler for seasons.
I feel your frustration though.

I only explicitly weight it for a few positions, but I definitely pay attention to it. The problem is even with a team of players that all have 100 intelligence, it takes your team running an offensive play several hundred times before they even get to halfway on the play knowledge scale. For defenders, the number of times running and scouting the play is more like several thousand times to get to a quarter of the way there.

Is that factual or speculation?

It's anecdotal based on observing the play knowledge meters both at the team and individual level. Since it's really hard to actually track numerically a player's play knowledge, I can't really track it statistically.

I do think you're overstating the impact play knowledge has. Yes, it is important, but there are other factors also weigh that score. Most experience calculations essentially determine reaction time for events, and when that happens the calculation uses the following scores:

Experience at the position: 40% - this is the most important piece of this calculation
Experience at the play you are running: 15%
Experience at the play you are facing: 15%
Fatigue: 20%
Crowd Noise: 10%

As you can see, it's more important that the player have a large 'experience' bar for the position they are on the field playing.

That's good to know, thanks

This is great information. I also don't think 30% combined play knowledge is overstating its importance especially given how slowly players gain it. Even 15% reaction time by the OL is the difference between 8 sacks and 2 sacks.

Well, considering you can be at 70% alone on Positional Experience, Fatigue and Crowd Noise... that's huge.

As you say, all players on all teams have issues with Play Knowledge... especially Against Play Knowledge as you can't really influence that, you can only face what you face after all... I'd say making sure guys are in the Right Position and Not Tired is HUGE, and that Home Field Advantage (Crowd Noise) is helpful.

Which tells me that Lesser Players who are at the Proper Position and Rotated to stay at High Energy (Fatigue?) will do better than Stars who are out of position and play every snap.

I never really though of it that way, but this break down is more than genius and explains some of why certain Player Moves I made haven't been huge deals yet.

An Example.

Leon Arana was the 7th Pick in the MFN-7 2023 Draft, my very first Pick. He was a TE. I tried adjusting the Play Book so he was the main focusing, and just couldn't tweak it. Gave up on Passing, moved him to RB.

He's at 87 on Positional Experience, he got there in 5 Games at the Position.

He has, by the end of his Rookie Season (Missed Play Offs, so we're done this Year), 27 Offensive Plays that are at 95%+ Mastery from what I can see by the bar. Either no space seen or a slight sliver.

But he doesn't have ANY Defensive Plays over 40%.

So for me, the real impact is he needs 13% more at Positional Experience to get where he needs to be, and he'll only continue to add Offensive Plays to his Mastery to be good in. If I rotate (I have 2 other RBs, so shouldn't be an Issue) then Fatigue shouldn't be a Factor.

So he's only missing 15% of being a Super Saiyan, but it looks like either 2 1/2 Seasons for the most regular Plays before he can get there at the shortest time frame.

Here's another one, offensive team holds and is given 10 yards https://mfn20.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/2205#393298

Players come pregenerated with knowledge of some plays. If you look at the plays your guy has mastered, I'd be willing that you haven't run at least half of them.

This is actually correct, the hold occurred downfield by a WR after the catch. The penalty is enforced from the spot of the foul, which in this case was downfield.

Seems odd because that's a place where a hold would rarely be called. Usually it'd be a hold by the offensive line, but I could see that here.
