Spike the ball

Please can we add this to rules please, it's just really **** to lose any game let alone a PO game when a simple spike could have at least kept you in the game.
Is this possible to Do?

I'm going to guess no, or at least very difficult.

Many, many requests for additional options in rules but none of them ever get done (or are even on the roadmap).

In the 3+ years I've been here the only additional option I recall being added to rules is the + added to the point differential. We can now do up/down by 29+ instead of just up/down by 28.

I don't see why it would be difficult, surely just add either throw ball away, which QBs can now do (not often enough imo) or just add a spike ball play, in rules add in qtrs , time and TOs ...simples :)

There actually is a spike play in the logic, but it's obviously not getting hit. I'll address that in a future update.

I just assume it must be difficult because no enhancements are ever made to the options for rule creation, or even just being able to upload/download them using the current options.

I think a spike rule would be difficult to create. In truth, there shouldn't really be a need for a rule because in reality there is little to no variation on when a team would normally call a spike play. But the rule would require additional parameters such as time outs, but even that you'd have to have one rule for each amount of timeouts (i.e. do you need to conserve a timeout for a field goal, or is there no point because you have to have a touchdown?)

Feel free to throw out what you think the rules should be - part of the reason I haven't changed it is just because I haven't taken the time to really think through what situations a spike play should be called. I'll get to it eventually, but if the we have an open discussion that will help get it in faster.

Some initial thoughts on this. I threw in a couple of other ideas that I think sort of go hand in hand with the changes that would probably be required to implement this properly.

Unless mentioned below, all other rule criteria/options would be the same.

Criteria: Time Outs Remaining
Option: 1
Option: 2
Option: 3
Option: Any

Criteria: Down
Option: 1
Option: 2
Option: 3
Option: 4
Option: XP
Option: KO

Criteria: Time Remaining
Options: Currently you can only select in 30 second increments. I think this should be changed so you can enter specific values, such as less than 5 seconds, etc. (ex: If it's the end of the half, 4th down on the 50 and only 5 seconds left, I may want to try a hail mary, but not if there are 30 seconds left.)

Criteria: Call Play
Option: Rule Settings (Personnel/Play Type Settings - normal rule playcalling - See Note Below)
Option: Spike Ball
Option: Do NOT Spike Ball
Option: Call TO
Option: Do NOT Call TO
Option: Field Goal
Option: Do NOT kick FG
Option: Punt
Option: Do NOT punt
Option: Onside Kick
Option: Do NOT Onside Kick

NOTE:
Another option for the Call Play criteria could be: Choose from Gameplan/Rule
I think it would be GREAT if you only had to setup the criteria you wanted applied for each rule, instead of having to make a selection for every available option.
For example, you have to set the play type and personnel in EVERY rule, instead of just being able to set certain aspects of the rule and then let your regular gameplan (or another rule) handle the rest.
Any time I want to adjust the play type / personnel ratios of my gameplan, I would have to make the change in every rule. A potential huge time commitment for someone who has a bunch of rules, and one of the main reasons I don't.

Regarding this example, I would like to be able to have a rule that says "Don't spike the ball when X", then have my gameplan (or another rule) determine which play is called.

My question is, do we even need this to be in a user-modifiable rule? How different is this going to be from one team to another? Is there a set of rules we can build together that can apply to every team? Even if we gave access to this through rules, I'd like the AI to have a better base decision making process for those who don't want to take the time to make rules for themselves. I'm more interested in getting the AI rules smarter and usable before building an interface for an owner to override it.

I'd like to see a discussion on what the actual rule settings should be; if we get into differing opinions that will push me more toward giving access to this in the rule builder, but right now I think - especially the spike play - is not going to have a lot of variance from one toam to another.

When you've used all your TOs, that would be a start.
I don't get it because I remember at one point seeing spikes Called?

The logic is there, but at some point it got tweaked with some other end-of-game logic (I don't recall if it was happening too much or what. It's been a while.).
