Players Contracts

Just a quick question..........

If I have a player who has 2 years left on his contract now, if I offered him a 3 or 4 year contract will he be signed for the 3 or 4 years or would it be considered as an extension or 3 or 4 years on top of his 2 year for a total of 5 - 6 years? Just need to know before I pulled the trigger.

Thanks!

The contract always starts in the year he's in, i.e. if he has 2 years left (including the current season) you can't offer him a 1-year contract. You can see on the contract offer screen how it plays out, and you'll see the point at which the bonus drops which will show you the end of his current contract (since his current bonus will still be on your books).

So I, as the Owner, would lose those two seasons at which he is already signed for? Right?

So there are no Extensions?

The base salary is expunged, but not the bonus. An extension just means that you are extending the length of his contract - but since you can't get the bonus back, so it's going to continue to apply for any future years in addition to the new bonus.

Mmmmmm, ok, thanks for the quick response. I'll have to think about that for a bit.

The plus on this is if he is a good young player you could offer him an extension (or longer contract) and raise his bonus but decrease his total salary to help create cap space. You would do this if you wanted to lock him up for a few extra seasons

That was my motivation on doing this. Just wasn't sure how it would work best for me! Naturally.

I'm a tight-wad, always have been, I think that's why I lose alot of FA's. Just ain't used to playing with this kind of money.

Just call me Ebenezer Scrooge!!

HaHa.. FA is a whole different monster with contracts. You do need to be careful and not blow you whole cap space on one or 2 FA's. I have noticed a difference already in dave's slight adjustments to salaries and it is more difficult to bid on every big FA then it was just a season or 2 ago.

Thats why its important to lock up your own players first as it is a lot cheaper. Dont waste a lot of cash on them either if they are in a massive decline tho they are still worth 2 year contracts at a time. Dont totally give up on them.

Well, I try to keep enough to fill up needed roster slots with, hopefully, higher rated players.

I may fail a few times, but I WILL get it figured out. Idk anything about spreadsheets and such, but I do have brand new batteries for my little calculator, it's outdated, but it's still pretty **** smart!!

Don't feel bad...I'm the same way(or used to be). But I'll tell ya' now that you will lose out on the good one's if you don't give them max $$.
