Scouting offense/defense

I've noticed that if I load recommended for gameplanning, the computer often times wants to scout a defensive or offensive play that my team is already fully familiar with (the bar is full). Is there any point in doing this? Do you gain anything from scouting a play that you are already familiar with or should you really be scouting plays that the opposition uses a lot, gains a lot of yards on, and you aren't very familiar with?

Here is what I do.

I want Every Play to be a Full Bar. But some of that will come over time as I play against some of these plays during the game. Remember, this is your Offense trying to learn the Opponent Defense, and your Defense trying to learn the Opponent Offense.

This is important to note, because the plays YOU Run in the game are only part of the equation. As each play takes the Play Knowledge of Each Player (on the field) for BOTH the Play he is Running AND the Play he is Facing.

So there are two things to take into consideration here. Do you want Quantity, or Quality? I prefer Quality... Max a Red Line then move on. However, some might suggest having 2 Plays at 50% is better than having 1 Play at 100%.

So the FIRST thing I look at is Red Bar. Is it full? Yes: Move On. No: Scout it. That simple, for me.

The Plays in Scouting are listed by # of times Ran. You can break this down in many different ways (Range of Games). I like to keep mine at Last 32 in the Pre Season and Last 16 in the Season. I do Last 32 in the Pre Season because SOME Teams will use a lot more Plays in Pre Season trying to audition a few new ones to either add or replace an old one that's not working as well anymore with.

Which takes me to #2. I want to be good at the Plays the Opponent ACTUALLY RUNS. So Play Count is vital for me. But Rule #1 saves me time... if it's already Maxed then it doesn't matter what the Play Count is. I'm already moving on. Now I'm gunning for those Plays that are Not Maxed and High Count.

Which takes me to Tie-Breaker, Rule #3. So I've skipped the Maxed, and I've selected the High Count... but I have 10 Plays to select and I've only used 9. Now I have 3 Plays that all have the same (or very similar) Play Count. Which do I pick? Here is where I break from Rule #1. Because I'm looking to be my best THIS game. So I go with Play Success. I'd rather improve a little against their Best Remaining Play than a Play they don't do well that I already have equal or better Knowledge of. But that's the only time I deviate, to 'break the tie' on that 10th Play.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Above is my Strategy, but I wanted to add something here. You get Play Knowledge when you face a Play. Some small amount, Player by Player, every time they face it (and every time they Run it).

So Above is also the fastest way to 'Master' a Play for your Team.

HOWEVER, if you desire Quantity... here's a Tip. Not sure why one would want Quantity over Quality, but if they do here you go.

Don't Scout plays with High Counts. Why not? You'll face them a ton in the Game... thus gaining Play Knowledge simply by playing the game.

Which means you can use the Scouting to target either (1) specific 'Power Plays' that Team might not run (if they have it in their Play Book), (2) specific Formations, like wanting to have Full Knowledge of every Goal Line Play or something like that, or (3) to simply have Knowledge on every play possible so you aren't at 0% Knowledge with anything (for what ever that might be worth... I think 0% is likely just as bad as 1% or even 5%... but hey, I could be wrong there).

Long, sorry for that. Hope it helps.

One of the feature updates in 0.4 is that your team gets a boost during the game when facing a scouted play beyond the normal familiarity boost. So there -is- an advantage to having scouted a play the week your team faces it. It may be better to scout less familiar plays to get a better boost than you would have had otherwise, though - so you might just experiment and see.

The AI recommendation simply scouts the most-used plays by your opponent.

I'm pretty sure this is not true. I've tried using the recommendation while having scout offense set to different games and it seems random.
