Re: Why Things Aren't Seen in Beta

Hey, y'all, the next time one of you starts to write a "why wasn't this thing seen in beta testing post", save your time and send me a PM. I'm more than willing to let you have my team in MFN-1.

In general, I spend between 5-10 hours a week beta testing MFN. I do it because I think it's fun for, and it allows me (and everyone else) to have a better sim to play. I certainly do not get paid to do it. I also do it to "relax" from or "warm up" for my normal work day.

I also realize why a bug that is obvious to y'all goes unnoticed, and why that is confusing. But here's the deal:

* The rosters in beta look nothing like the rosters in the standard leagues. They are over-generated, super rosters because they are still largely made up of vets from the pre-0.4.1 days and other boom players.

* There is a lot to review on each play. Where most players watch where the ball goes on the play and care about the final stats from it, you have to watch everything else when beta testing. This makes things hard to catch every single issue because you end up having to watch several hundred plays to catch some of the hard pieces in logic.

* Stats DO NOT INDICATE game play. I can't emphasize this enough. Just because the result of the play was good or bad, the stat itself doesn't tell you why. Right now sacks are high, but they are high for multiple reasons:

1) Coverage is better, so QBs wait longer to throw the ball
2) There is a sporatic bug with OTs that we never tracked down
3) RBs should stay in to block longer before running routes
4) DL are too fast
5) OL Pass Blocking got nerfed in 0.4.2 because people were complaining about there not being enough sacks, now with better coverage this nerfing no longer makes sense

* There are a limited number of game plans and plays that will get tested during any given season, and each season last AS LONG AS a season in a standard league. And most MFN-1 owners are going to test the game plans that they want to play. Want to know why hook, curl, and hitch routes are more effective now? JDB made a change, and I realized it could improve those routes, so I tested them because I like that style of offense.

But here's the other thing. MFN-1 is completely full. It is always full. This is great because it means real people are setting the game plans. But only a handful of us are really active on the forums, breaking down film and finding problems.

Just think about that the next time you start a post with "Beta should have..."

You are more than welcome to my team. And Ray and Ragnulf-le-maudit would probably agree.

I'm sure I'd get as much enjoyment sinking my MFN time into game planning around the issues that I see in the game.
